A post mortem is taking place on the body of a man who was assaulted in his flat in Dublin yesterday evening.

A man in his 30's was arrested at the scene and remains in Garda custody in Terenure following the death of the pensioner.

Gardai were called to a flat in Ashdale Gardens, Terenure, at around quarter to six yesterday evening, where a man was discovered with head injuries.

The man was taken by ambulance to St. James's Hospital and died from his injuries a short time later.
