A post mortem examination will be carried out today on the body of a newborn baby boy found in Cork City yesterday evening.
The body was found in a house in the Friar's Walk area on Cork's southside.
It's understood an ambulance was called to the house, and gardaí were alerted when the body was found.
Mother taken to hospital
The scene has remained sealed off overnight.
Gardai say they are awaiting the results of a post mortem on the baby's remains, which will be conducted by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster at Cork university hospital today.
They will then decide the course of their investigation.
Meanwhile, the baby's mother, who was also in the house, was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
