Post mortems are expected to be carried out today on the two Irish teenagers who died on the Greek island of Ios last week.

Max Wall and Andrew O’Donnell were 18-years-old and died in separate accidents.

Both were students at St Michael’s College in Dublin and on a sixth year holiday; Andrew went missing after a night out and his body was found in a rocky area. It is thought he might have fallen while walking home.

On Sunday, Max fell ill and was taken to hospital where he later passed away.

Both deaths are being investigated by Greek police.

'We are still trying to process it'

Speaking to The Pat Kenny Show, Principal Tim Kelleher said the school community was still coming to terms with the tragedy.

“Words escape you at this moment in time because it is the last phone call any parent wants to get when they see their teenagers heading off on a holiday or heading off to a gig or a concert or whatever else they might be doing,” he said.

“We are still trying to process it all to be honest with you and I think the shock is being felt now throughout the whole community.”

He said the two young men had excelled in school and would have gone on to make “positive contributions” to society.

“They were full of optimism, great fun, great sportsmen, academically very bright – the world was their oyster,” he said.

“There really would have been such positive contributions to be made in the years ahead by both of them but unfortunately they will not get that chance now.”

Over 80 students from the school were on the holiday and have been making their way back to Ireland.

A book of condolence has opened at the school for mourners to sign.
