A postmortem will today be carried out on a body found on the shoreline of one of the Aran Islands.
The remains were discovered along the coast of Inis Oírr yesterday afternoon.
It is understood the body was found by the Inis Oírr Coast Guard unit and was removed to Rossaveal by Gardaí and the Inis Mór RNLI lifeboat.
The body was then removed to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
No details of the person’s identity have been released.
Gardaí are investigating the discovery.
