President Michael D Higgins is in “excellent spirits” following his recent hospitalization, according to Áras an Uachtaráin.
In a statement released today, they said he is expected to be released from care this Thursday and will proceed with a scheduled meeting with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at his home on Friday.
The 82-year-old was admitted to St James Hospital on Thursday, February 29, with what doctors now confirm was a “mild transient weakness” that is of no long-term concern to his health.
He is expected to make a full recovery - but his blood pressure remains under observation as a precautionary measure.
Legislation
The Áras statement said President Higgins has been considering two pieces of legislation while in hospital.
These are the Local Government (Mayor of Limerick) and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2023 and the Social Welfare and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2023 – both of which are due for signature between tomorrow and Thursday.
Following his release President Higgins's public engagements will be limited “to facilitate the short period of recuperation that they have recommended.”
