The OPW says a new visitor centre at Kilmainham Jail will help them welcome a high number of tourists each year.
President Michael D Higgins will officially open the new €5m facility as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme later today.
Frank Shelvy from the OPW's Heritage Services says the popularity of Kilmainham has increased significantly in recent years.
“The numbers have been very substantial. Kilmainham has been experiencing, in recent years, numbers like 330,000/340,000 (visitors),” he said.
“Certainly the level of demand we are experiencing since 2015 - people have been consistently coming to the jail in very large numbers over the winter and right throughout the early part of this year".
“And certainly this week, Easter week, we are very very busy indeed," he added.
