President Michael D Higgins is to remain in hospital over the weekend, Áras an Uachtaráin has said.
The 82-year-old was taken for tests in Dublin yesterday after being assessed by a doctor at the residence.
The President is to remain in St James's Hospital so his blood-pressure can be monitored.
Initial results in the hospital are said to have been "positive".
It is thought he will return to Áras an Uachtaráin early next week.
"President Michael D Higgins has thanked the public for the outpouring of well wishes which he has received since his admission to St James’s Hospital yesterday evening and would like to express his deep appreciation to all those who have sent messages to him, as well as to the medical staff for their continuing care," a statement said.
A reception at Áras an Uachtaráin proceeded as planned earlier on Friday and was hosted by Mrs Sabina Higgins.
On Wednesday night, President Higgins attended the Dublin International Film Festival to present the 2024 Volta Lifetime Achievement Award to film director Steve McQueen.
