President Barack Obama says he’s saddened by a horrific and tragic shooting at a cinema in Denver in which 12 people have been killed.

As many as 50 people have also been injured by a masked gunman, who opened fire during a screening of the latest batman movie.

Some of the victims are thought to be teenagers.

The suspect, who’s been arrested, has told police he has explosives in his apartment – that’s now being searched.

Reports now suggest the apartment may have been booby trapped.

The arrested man has been named locally as 24-year-old James Holmes.

In the last few moments, President Obama has held a silence for the dead.

He’s described what happened as a senseless and ‘heinous’ tragedy.
