President Michael D Higgins has drawn special attention to those suffering in war in his final Christmas Message.
He has highlighted the brutal attacks and taking of hostages by Hamas on October 7th, 2023, and the suffering of the people of Gaza.
President Higgins has said that civilians' rights around the world aren't being recognised.
“This Christmas we are all too aware that far too many of our global family are having inflicted upon them as part of the most horrific circumstances of war,” he said.
“Circumstances that less and less respect civilian rights and that force endless displacement.”
He has released his final Christmas Message ahead of his term coming to an end in November of next year.
