A priest in Dublin has been ordered to stop giving people communion after masses.
Parishioners were receiving communion through a door of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Huntstown.
Many of those who attended over a number of weeks visited the church after watching mass online.
Gardaí say they became aware of an event involving organised activity taking place there.
They then intervened, and there is no longer holy communion being given at the west Dublin church.
Meanwhile, the Archdiocese of Dublin has moved to clarify the current rules for parishes.
They said: "In the interest of health and safety priests and parishes ought not to succumb to requests to distribute Holy Communion before or after Mass, in or outside churches.
"Drive-in Masses are not permitted as no gatherings of people outdoors or indoors are permitted.
"Holy Communion can only be distributed in the church to mourners attending a Funeral Mass, to those celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage and to the essential ministers that make celebration of Mass online possible".
Currently, churches are only allowed open for private prayer, with daily or weekly masses restricted to online broadcasts.
Only ten people are able to attend funeral masses under the current restrictions.
