A priest has been stabbed while saying morning mass in Canada.
The attack happened at St Joseph's Oratory in Montreal shortly before 9am this morning.
A man was arrested at the scene in connection with the stabbing.
A spokesperson for Montreal police told GlobalNews: “Witnesses say the priest was celebrating mass and suddenly, the suspect went towards the priest to attack him with a sharp object."
The Catholic priest is in a stable condition with only minor injuries, church officials said.
The Diocese of Montreal named the priest as Father Claude Grou, the rector of the oratory.
Valérie Plante, the mayor of Montreal, described the stabbing as a "horrible and inexcusable" act.
She added that she wished the priest a "speedy recovery".
