Primark in the UK has said their initial investigation has shown there is no evidence so far that a security guard at one of their stores removed a infant from her mother.

Writing to the 'Free to Feed' Facebook page, Caroline Starmer explained that, while she was shopping at her local Primark store in Leicester, her nine-month-old daughter needed a feed and started crying.

"I decided to find a quiet spot out the way of others and feed her discreetly. Within 5 minutes of doing so, I was approached by a security guard who asked me to vacate the premises to feed my daughter," she allegeed.

She claimed that after stating that she could legally feed where she wanted, the security officer proceeded "to physically remove my daughter from my breast and walk down the store with her, saying if I wanted my daughter, then I was to come and get her."

In a statement, Primark says they have investigated the allegation which they 'take very seriously'.

Having reviewed CCTV and spoken to security guards, the company says "the customer allegation is not supported by any evidence to date... The company would obviously be happy to work with any police investigation into the incident, should this be needed.

"We do not prohibit breastfeeding. In addition, any customer can request a quiet or private area within the store to breastfeed her child and our staff will do all they can to accommodate such a request," Primark states.

Free to Feed has requested the release of CCTV footage of the alleged incident, saying until then it is "impossible to speculate on the true details of this matter. One word against another."
