The two children, who are both under the age of 12, were reportedly the subject of threats in recent weeks.

The Irish Independent reports that the two children are among the youngest people ever to be handed Garda Information Message (GIM) forms.

A GIM form is an official warning issued by Gardaí to let people know that their safety is under threat.

While there is no suggestion of a specific attack being planned on the children, they were given security advice late last month.

It is understood that an anonymous phone call was made to their Dublin primary school, warning they were going to be targeted.

The threats lead to pupils being sent home from school.

The warnings are believed to be connected to a feud in the south inner city.

A Garda spokesperson said the force does not confirm or deny any matters relating to the security of an individual.
