Private modular home companies have approached Government TDs about providing accommodation for asylum seekers.
The Department of Equality is examining the feasibility of building such units on public land.
The Government's efforts to build 700 modular units have been delayed multiple times and may not be complete until the end of the year.
Fine Gael TD Paul Kehoe believes bringing in private providers could speed things up.
"There's a huge amount of vacant properties right across the country where you could pick me 1,2,3, or 4 modular homes on a site," he said.
"It doesn't have to be fitting 30 or 40 onto one site.
"I believe that we can solve this crisis that we're in at the moment by looking at all of the vacant properties we can reach across the country."
