Property developer Kevin McGeever has appeared before Strokestown District Court, Co. Roscommon, in connection with his own alleged abduction. The judge remanded Mr. McGeever (68) in custody, to appear before Harristown Court on Friday.

Mr McKeever of Nirvana, Ballywinna, Craughwell, Co. Galway appeared before Judge Geoffrey Browne on charges of knowingly giving false information and wasting garda time between January 29th and February 28th 2013.

Garda John Keating of Gort garda station gave evidence of arrest at Clontarf, Dublin at 4.50pm yesterday. Garda Keating explained to the court that he then transported Mr. McGeever to Gort garda station in Co. Galway where he was charged with the 2 offences at 10.35pm last night.

Arriving in court 10 minutes ahead of the 10.30am court sitting, Mr. McGeever wore dark sunglasses he removed in the courtroom, a black leather jacket and a navy pinstripe shirt. He spoke to his solicitor Joan Devine for a number of minutes on arrival.

Inspector Paraic Jones of Castlerea garda station made an application on behalf of the State to remand the defendant in custody with consent to bail. An independent surety of €10,000, of which €3,000 in cash with an own bond of €2,500 was sought. Solicitor Joan Devine requested that the independent surety be reduced to €8,000, stating that her client would not be in a position to provide that amount. Inspector Jones said that the State would have reservations about reducing the amount, in light of the offences.

Strict bail conditions were imposed by gardaí, including that the defendant surrender all valid passports and refrain from applying for any travel documents, that he provide an address and give 7 days notice if he intends to stay elsewhere; sign on 3 times weekly.

Judge Browne remanded the accused to appear before Harristown Court this Friday at 10.30am.
