A demonstration will take place in Dublin today in solidarity with the people of Sudan.

Beginning at O'Connell Street at 11am, demonstrators seek to highlight the need to support people in Ukraine.

Aseel Hassan Sakota from Mullingar is one of the people protesting in the capital and many of her family are still trapped in Sudan.

"I still think and believe it's really important to show our support for our people back home," she said.

Ms Sakota said the protest can show the "seriousness" of the current conflict in Sudan. She says she's constantly wondering whether members of her family are still alive.

"Sudan is really in need of people to know what's going on," she said. "And for funds to be [made] available and any services that would help [people in Sudan]."

Ms Sakota says people here can show they care about what's happening to the Sudanese.

163 Irish citizens and their families have been evacuated from Sudan so far.

According to GOAL Sudan HR Manager Sara Mohammed, The conflict now risks displacing thousands of extra people and is limiting GOAL's access to those in need of life-saving help.

"They're doing the time and monitoring the changes everyday," she said.
