Police in the North are appealing for witnesses to two separate shootings last night.

Both incidents happened in north Belfast, but appear to be unrelated.

At around 5:40am yesterday evening, police were called to a fast food outlet on the Oldpark Road where a man had been shot.

He was taken to hospital where he is fighting for his life.

A short time later a blue coloured Vauxhall Astra estate car was seen leaving the scene.

A car matching this description was found on fire later nearby in Torrens Gardens.

Elsewhere in the New Lodge area, a man was shot in both legs in a paramilitary-style shooting at around 7:55pm.

He was taken to hospital where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the New Lodge area to contact detectives at Tennent Street.
