Police have escaped serious injury after a bomb attack on a PSNI vehicle in West Belfast. the bomb was initially thought to have been thrown but now appears to have been detonated by a command wire.

The incident happened around half past ten last night on the Falls Road near the City Cemetery.

No one was injured but a family had to be treated for shock after their car was hit by shrapnel.

Alliance Justice Spokesman Stewart Dickson says there is no justification for this kind of attack, labeling the attack “Absolutely appalling” and calling it “a reprehensible incident, an incident of which there is no justification whatsoever in Northern Ireland today.

“An attack on the police and then people in a car caught up in this as well, civilians.

“Just absolutely disgraceful behaviour on behalf people who have no place in our society today.”
