PSNI investigating attempted murder of police officers in Belfast last night

A female officer who was inside at the time managed to escape unhurt.

4 arrests were made overnight after rioting in parts of South and East Belfast.

The violence follows protests against a decision to restrict the flying of the union flag at Belfast City Hall.

A water cannon had to be deployed in the Broadway area of the city in an effort to disperse crowds.

The North's First Minister and the leader of the Ulster Unionist Party are to meet again today to discuss how to stop violent street demonstrations like this.

Last night marked the 8th night of disturbances with six protests reported across the city.
