The Department of Agriculture has advised members of the public to stop using all Virapro sanitation products.

It follows the earlier recall of the company's hand sanitiser after tests found it could cause irritation.

It has since emerged that a number of other Virapro products are not on the Department of Agriculture's 'approved' list.

The Department is now advising that all products in the range are returned to the supplier as a precaution.

The Virapro hand sanitiser widely used in Irish schools was recalled on Thursday night over concerns it could cause skin conditions, headaches and breathing problems.

Speaking in the Dáil yesterday, the Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue said a full review is underway.

He said it became clear on October 16th that the sanitiser did not meet the standards for approval, with the Department concerned it may contain methanol rather than ethanol.

A number of schools closed for the day yesterday after concerns about the hand sanitiser were raised.

The Department of Agriculture said an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
