The Russian president has hinted at attacking US and UK military facilities after the two states gave Ukraine permission to use long-range missiles against Russia.
Vladimir Putin said his military would "respond resolutely in a mirror way" to an "escalation of aggressive actions".
"We believe that we have the right to use our weapons against military facilities of the countries that allow to use their weapons against our facilities," Mr Putin said in a TV address.
The UK supplied Ukraine with Storm Shadow missiles earlier this week, just days after President Biden's administration made a similar move.
Storm Shadow missiles were fired into Russia yesterday, and the Russian military responded by firing an intermediate-range missile into the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said last night that the targeting of Dnipro was a "clear and severe escalation".
Mr Zelenskyy called for a stronger response from allies in a post on X.
He said Putin is "spitting in the face of those in the world who genuinely want peace to be restored".
Russia's ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin told Sky News Britain's military involvement has significantly changed its participation in the war.
"Absolutely, Britain and the UK is now directly involved in this war, because this firing cannot happen without NATO staff, British staff as well," he said.
Earlier this week marked the 1,000 day of the war.
