Parents say they’re missing out on food in order to deal with back-to-school costs. A Barnardos survey shows some households are leaving bills unpaid to ensure children have what they need for the new term.
On average parents are paying €355 for a child in senior infants, €390 for children in 4th class in primary school and €770 for children going into first year. Â Barnardos Chief Fergus Finlay said he’d like to see free school books introduced, as in Scotland.
Are you cutting back on food and paying bills in order to pay back -to-school cost?
Should parents return to a ‘reuse and recycle’ attitude by buying books and uniforms second hand?
And do you think parents are reluctant to buy second hand schools goods because of a ‘stigma’ attached to it?
