Several areas of the country will see snowfall before the night is out, the Head of Forecasting at Met Éireann has said.
Evelyn Cusack was speaking amid a number of yellow and orange weather warnings for the entire country.
Evelyn told The Hard Shoulder Ireland is actually dodging a larger storm system.
"We've a real mix of rain, it's been raining all day in Dublin," she said.
"Raining in the south, sleet in parts of the midlands and then snow to the midlands, west and north-west.
"The wind has picked up... Météo France has named it Storm Larisa.
"We were slightly worried we might have to name a storm yesterday for Ireland, but it's keeping to the south of us.
"It's been a really quiet winter, we haven't had one named storm.
"At the moment now it's more snow; so much for Spring starting on St Brigid's Day".
UPDATE: Antrim, Armagh, Down added to the list
⚠️Status Orange - Snow/Ice warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Clare, Connacht, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath⚠️

Evelyn said dangerous conditions will continue into Friday.
"That snow will continue for a couple of hours, so pretty dangerous driving conditions in places this evening," she said.
"Take care to all the motorists and avoid travelling if you can in those areas.
"The whole system is going to clear eastwards into the Irish Sea tonight.
"So the areas in rain now are likely to get a swipe of snow before the night is out.
"That includes Leinster and the Greater Dublin Area - hard to know exactly when it will have cleared, but possibly by around rush-hour tomorrow.
"It will be clearing to icy conditions, so very tricky weather this evening, tonight and tomorrow morning.
"That's why we have a mixture of yellow and orange level [warnings]; but whatever the colour, there will be pretty tricky conditions.
"Where we have the rain now, that is going to turn to snow for a couple of hours and then that will freeze over," she added.
