The case of a 72-year-old serial rapist who walked free from court on bail having received a 3-year jail sentence is back before the Central Criminal Court tomorrow.

Patrick O'Brien of Old Court Avenue in Bray is in ill-health and had 9 years of a 12-year jail sentence suspended by Mr. Justice Paul Carney on Monday.

He will now appear before the judge tomorrow morning when lawyers for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) may make an application in the case.

His release on bail ahead of an appeal against his sentence has caused public controversy.

His daughter Fiona Doyle, who he abused for a decade, has been praised by Taoiseach Enda Kenny for her courage in going public.
