A woman in Cork has caught a giant rat that was hiding in her car for more than two months.

Laura Sweetman in Macroom noticed rat droppings and bite marks on the inside of her car, the children's car seat and buggy - and even her child's bottle.

But she thought it was food left behind by her children.

She spent more than €2,000 replacing her things, still not knowing what was causing it.

But while she was cleaning out her boot last Wednesday, she came face to face with the giant rat two months after he had been there.

A neighbour finally gave her a special rat cage, which they left inside the car and finally caught the rodent and got rid of him.
