There is some “really good weather” on the way with temperatures set to hit the high 20s by next weekend.
The last few days have been fairly miserable in many parts of the country but Met Éireann forecaster Evelyn Cusack has said we’ll be searching for the sunscreen in a matter of days.
On Newstalk Breakfast this morning, she said temperatures will be getting close to 30C in some areas by next weekend.
“After a fairly dismal weekend in places, the news is good for this week,” she said.
“It’s going to turn into an overall dry, warm and sunny week and indeed the coming weekend will be very warm with temperatures in the mid to high 20s.”
"Really good weather"
She said many areas are enduring a dull misty start this morning – with the risk of thunderstorms over Leinster later on this evening.
“But then it is really good weather,” she said. “A jet stream keeping to the north of Ireland is bringing in humid air - perhaps some may find it a bit muggy particularly on Wednesday night and Thursday night - but that means by day, we are talking about temperatures in the sunshine up to 25C and indeed in the coming weekend 27C and perhaps even higher.”
"Warm and sunny"
She did offer “one little caveat” about the outlook – noting that the humid air mass will bring “some patchy drizzle around along some coasts and over some high ground”
“So, a little bit disappointing in places but overall dry, warm and sunny this week and this coming weekend,” she said.
“Do take care, observe water safety and also the sun cream. It is high summer now so enjoy and be careful.”
