The Chief Executive of Rehab says she is committed to full financial transparency at the group. Angela Kerins says the charity is looking at ways to give a full picture of the amount it pays to staff.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has been told that Health Service Executive (HSE) has details of some staff salaries at the group and can give it to TDs.

But Angela Kerins says people making charity donations should not expect every penny of their donation to go to frontline services.

Ms. Kerins has defended her salary and says she earns less than the market rate.

She says her salary of €240,000 does not come from public funds and should not be discussed at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today.

She says that including the bonuses they have waived, senior managers earn around 20% less than their counterparts in the private sector.

And she has told Mary-Lou McDonald of Sinn Féin that her basic salary is lower than it could be.

Ms. Kerins says the sum is less than others in similar positions can earn in the semi-state sector. However she has refused to discuss why her salary for 2013 is €6,000 higher than it was in 2010.

She says the salaries of Rehab managers are set by outside consultants.Earlier she stressed that Rehab is not a State agency.Meanwhile the head of the HSE has said it may be legally required to disclose the salaries of other senior executives even though Rehab does not want them released.

Tony O'Brien told the PAC that it was now illegal for a State agency to withhold information if an Oireachtas Committee wanted it.
