Rent Supplement for people living in Dublin and Galway is set to increase due to a rise in the cost of renting in the two counties.

The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has revised the maximum amount that people receiving the payment can spend.

The move will ensure that value for money is achieved while at the same time making sure that people on Rent Supplement are not priced out of the market for private rented accommodation.

The changes - which will see decreases in the payment for those living outside Dublin and Galway - will come into effect on June 17th.
