Renters are paying up to 12% extra to live close to DART and Luas stops in Dublin.
The latest report from Daft.ie has found that the average renter living close to Dublin’s light rail network is paying more than €3,000 a year more than the city’s average rent.
Commuters living along the Dublin coastline are paying the highest premium to live close to the DART.
The average rental price for the city is €2,002 per month – while renters close to Sandymount Dart Station are paying an average of €2,905.
Daft spokesperson Martin Clancy said it is all about supply and demand.
“Having that access to a DART or a Luas station is something that commuters and the general public put a premium on because it facilitates their lifestyle, it allows them to get in and out of work,” he said.
“Commuters living on the coastline – those on DART stations near Sandymount – they are paying the most, coming in at nearly €3,000 a month for the average property there.”
Renters close to the Lansdowne Road, Dalkey and Grand Canal stations were all counted in the top five highest rates.

To build its “light Rail Rental Map,” Daft analysed prices for thre0-bed semi and two bedroom apartments within 1km of each light rail stop in the Greater Dublin Area between April 2018 and March 2019.
On the Luas Red Line, homes close to Spencer Dock command the highest rents at an average of €2,858 – nearly double the least expensive Luas stop at Cheeverstown.
The report also included properties along the proposed route for the new Metrolink.
The most expensive properties along the route are in the city centre with the O’Connell Street average eat €2,678.
The least expensive was at Dardistown at €1,700.
It is expected rental prices along the line will increase once the plan is finalised.
