The Children's Minister says a report into the death of a two-year-old boy is unlikely to be available until the criminal investigation is complete.

Hassan Khan was found dead in his South Dublin home last month.

The investigation for the Child and Family Agency - Túsla - will examine how various agencies interacted with Hassan Khan and his family from early August, when he was the subject of a Garda Child Rescue Ireland alert.

Minister James Reilly says it could be some time before it's made public:

Hazel Waters of Ridge Hall, Ballybrack is accused of killing Hassan Khan at their last month. She was admitted to the Central Mental Hospital following an appearance in court.

The toddler's body was found in their apartment at Ridge Hall in Ballybrack. It is believed he was stabbed to death.

The level of state supports for the family is now likely to be investigated as the toddler was the subject of a Child Rescue Ireland alert just two months ago.

It was cancelled within an hour when he was found with his father, but it is unclear what level of follow-up supports were provided or considered after Hassan was returned.

The CEO of child and family agency Tusla, Gordon Jeyes, said it will work with any investigating body to cast light on the little boy's death.
