While reporting on the violent robbery of a woman in Oakland, California, KTVU reporter Heather Holmes learnt a new lesson in irony.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Holmes and a camera crew were standing outside a police station on Monday, only metres from their van, which was left unlocked. During the report, her purse was stolen from the unattended vehicle, with her bank card being used in a nearby petrol station only 20 minutes later.
While Holmes herself may have become part of the news, she was keen to highlight that the earlier mugging, which left a woman bloodied and beaten, was the real story.
Reporters are often accompanied by security - KTVU says this is done on request of its employees - but the crew didn't expect to need this kind of help right outside a police station.

Oh the irony of it all...while reporting on violent mugging, my purse is stolen. Thieves used my bank card 20 mins after swiping my bag.
