One person is reported dead following a 6.3 magnitutde earthquake on the island of Taiwan.
The victim is believed to have been struck by fallen rocks as he climbed a mountain in the centre of the island.
The quake struck close to the capital of Taipei, shaking buildings and sending people running into the streets.

State television said the quake had triggered a gas explosion in the centre of the island but so far there are no reports of casualties.
