The Chairwoman of the Revenue Commissioners says she is intrigued at the credit and debit card problem on the local property tax next year when it did not arise earlier this year.
Josephine Feehily has admitted they made a mistaken assumption that people still had their local property tax booklet and were aware of the language used around payment methods.
She says the online system flagged that payment would be taken now but that it should have gone further and informed people they could pay other ways.
But she has told the Oireachtas Finance Committee that earlier this year those who paid the tax by credit or debit card did so weeks before it was due.
