The head of the Revenue Commissioners has praised the public's compliance with the Property Tax as exceptional.
Revenue's Annual Report for 2013 shows over 94% of households complied with it last year - and 90% have paid this year's tax.
In total, Revenue took in almost €38 billion in tax last year - up by more than €1.2 billion on 2012.
Revenue Chairperson Josephine Feehily says the introduction of the new property tax was the biggest challenge in meeting those figures.
But she says the Irish public have shown remarkable compliance throughout the recession:

On Property Tax, Josephine Feehily, Chairman of the Revenue Commissioners said, “Since ... July 2013, €7.6 million has been collected in respect of 39,227 properties.”
She said voluntary compliance rates for Property Tax were exceptional for its first year, continuing, “We recognise and acknowledge the contribution of individual taxpayers and businesses into embedding a compliance culture” she said.
Fuel laundering
Revenue closed down 30 filling stations in 2013, bringing the total number of fuel station closures since 2011 to 119. In 2013 Revenue detected and dismantled nine fuel laundering plants.
The impact of Revenue’s actions is reflected in a 5% increase in auto-diesel sales at the pumps.
As for the future, Ms Feehily said Revenue is working with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs to identify a new mineral oil marker, which will be rolled out early next year.
