Boy band One Direction have dominated the MTV Video Music Awards. The band, who came together after entering as solo contestants on “The X Factor,” stole the show only 6 months after first arriving in the US.

They walked off with 3 gongs – including Best Pop Video and Best New Artist.

Rihanna went into the VMA’s with five nominations, but came away with just one award – video of the year for “We Found Love” – which was shot in Northern Ireland:
