There’s bad news for drivers with tolls set to rise on some roads once again next year.
The fee for the Dublin Port Tunnel heading southbound at peak morning times is increasing from €12 to €13.
On the M50, cars, buses and lighter goods vehicles that do not have a tag or video account will be paying an extra 10c.
There is no increase for cars that do have one of the accounts.
Heavy Goods Vehicles with tag and video accounts are facing a 10c increase on the M50, while those that do not are facing a 20c rise.
Just one of the eight other toll roads around the country is hiking prices for cars – with a 10c increase on the way for users of the M4 Kilcock to Kinnegad.
Tolls are increasing by 10c for Buses, Coaches and HGVs on all eight roads except the M3 where the tolls remain unchanged for HGV’s lighter than 3,500kg.
In a statement, Transport Infrastructure Ireland said the toll hikes are in line with the annual inflation rate of 1.7%.
It said the income it collects through tolls is used in combination with Exchequer funding to pay for the upkeep of Ireland’s national roads.
There are a total of 10 toll roads in Ireland – two (M50 and Dublin Port Tunnel) are operated by TII and eight are operated through public-private partnerships (PPP).
PPP agreements see investment funds paying for construction, operation and maintenance of new roads in return for the right to toll for an agreed period.
After the agreed period, toll ownership switches to the State.
