The world’s oddest diplomatic pairing has parted ways, for now. Dennis Rodman is back in the USA following his trip to North Korea and the world has been robbed of perhaps the most bizarre and baffling duo to grace the global stage in a very, very long time.

Rodman comes back to the US as, along with his travelling partners, one of the only Americans to meet the North Korean leader in person. With better first-hand experience of Kim, more than any politician, diplomat or CIA operative, Rodman finds himself in the odd position of international diplomacy expert - in an admittedly niche field.

Rodman went on ABC’s This Week upon his return home to discuss his trip.

The former Chicago Bulls’ star said all of the tension and fear over an impending, world ending nuclear war between North Korea and America could be averted with a quick two step fix: A phone call from Obama to Kim, and a game of basketball.

According to Rodman, Kim “wants Obama to do one thing: Call him.”

The North Korean leader, as quoted by Rodman, is apparently opposed to conflict. “He said, ‘If you can, Dennis—I don’t want (to) do war. I don’t want to do war.’ He said that to me.”

Rodman’s trip was made possible in large part due to Kim’s love of basketball, a sport in which Rodman was for a long time one of the world’s biggest stars. Rodman thinks that might be a good point to start a relationship with Obama.“[Kim] loves basketball. And I said the same thing, I said, ‘Obama loves basketball.’ Let’s start there."
