Roderic O’Gorman has been elected the new Green Party Leader.
The Minister for Integration beat off the challenge of Senator Pippa Hackett to take the position.
He will take over from Eamon Ryan who has led the party since 2011.
The Green Party confirmed the decision at an event in Dublin this morning.

It follows a two-and-a-half-week campaign with Minister O’Gorman pitching himself as the candidate with the most experience and Senator Hackett campaigning on her rural credentials.
The party said just over 55% of its membership voted in the election.
In the end, Minister O’Gorman won out by just 72 votes.
He will replace Eamon Ryan as party leader immediately – attending tonight’s pre-Cabinet meeting with Taoiseach Simon Harris and Tánaiste Micheál Martin.
Speaking after the result was announced, Minister O’Gorman said he wants to see a progressive budget – adding that he won’t be afraid to call out disinformation about the Green Party from other opposition TDs.
It remains to be seen whether Minister O’Gorman will now look to reshuffle the Green Party’s ministers – with both Eamon Ryan and Catherine Martin expressing a willingness to stay on in their posts for the remainder of the Government term.
Eamon Ryan announced his decision to step down three weeks ago, with Catherine Martin confirming hours later that she would also be stepping down as deputy leader.
