The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has issued a statement following the death of his long-term girlfriend on Monday. The band have cancelled their concert in Perth after the death of L'Wren Scott.

They had been due to kick off the six concert Australia and New Zealand leg of their world tour on Wednesday.

However, the concert will not be going ahead following the apparent suicide of the fashion designer at her Manhattan apartment. It is understood that police do not suspect foul play.

Reports said Jagger (70) has flown back to New York. Tributes have poured in for the model (49), as it emerged her British fashion company had been losing millions of pounds.

Accounts filed with Companies House in October show Scott's British company, LS Fashion Ltd., was running at a loss of more than stg£3.5 (€4.16) million in 2012, up from more than stg£2.5 (€2.97) million the previous year.

The documents also show the firm owed more than stg£1 million, despite having assets totalling a similar amount.

A spokesman for Jagger, who had been in a relationship with Scott since 2001, said "He is completely shocked and devastated by the news".

But in a statement posted on Facebook, Mr. Jagger said:

"I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.

We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.

She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.

I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.

I will never forget her,
Mick"
