Independent Senator Ronan Mullen has confirmed that he will contest the next European elections.

The Galway native is putting his name forward in the Midlands-North-West constituency for next year's European contest.

He says he will remain as an independent candidate.

Meanwhile, Senator Mullen says he is delighted that referendum to abolish Seanad was defeated by the people yesterday -but he says reform is needed.
