TG4’s Irish-language western An Klondike will be hoping to find gold at next month’s IFTA Film & Drama Awards, leading the nominations with a total of nine nods – including ‘Best Drama’, ‘Best Director (Drama)’, and Dara Devaney as ‘Best Actor (Drama)’.

The story of two Irish brothers trying to make it in Gold Rush America will go head to head with RTÉ’s 1916 drama Rebellion, the fictionalised tale of three Irish women’s involvement in the Easter Rising. Rebellion received nominations for ‘Best Drama’, ‘Best Actor (Drama)’ for Barry Ward, while two of its female leads, Sarah Greene and Ruth Bradley, will face off for ‘Best Actress (Drama)’.

In an unprecedented year of Irish success at the movies, Brooklyn and Room will battle it out in the film categories, with healthy competition from Sing Street and My Name is Emily. Room, which swept the boards at the Canadian Screen Awards last night, has eight nominations at the IFTAs, a tally matched by Sing Street and My Name is Emily, while Brooklyn scored seven.
