Everyday my inbox greets me with a lot of motor related material. Some of the mails I get don't make the cut, but there were two I received this week that I have to give a bit of coverage to. With nicer weather on the horizon, and the days getting longer, some of us tend to get nostalgic for the open road. These two journeys made me yearn for a road trip.

The Mustang Tour
The first of these emails covered a journey that has been on my bucket list for some time now - a two week journey along Route 66 between Chicago and Santa Monica in California. One of the organisers has invited me on this road before, but I couldn’t go because the journey was to be done on Harley Davidsons and sadly I don’t have a bike licence……yet. This latest journey isn’t on Harley’s though; this drive will be done in Ford Mustangs. Now, a car licence isn’t a problem - but getting two weeks away from my family could prove difficult.

The Mustang Tour consists of a two week journey (18th September to October 1st) down “Main Street America”. This monster road trip happens to coincide with the Mustang’s fiftieth anniversary. It is also running close to the European release of the Mustang – when Ford in Ireland and in the UK will be making right-hand drive versions available.

Of course, a trip like this doesn’t happen for free. If you are interested in partaking, prices for this adventure start from €5,969. This price covers flights, car hire, 12 nights of accommodation and more.

Civic Type R at Nürburgring
The next trip is for all Civic Type R fans out there. This week I received an email from Honda Ireland telling me that the manufacturer is offering a feast of motor sport fun at Germany’s famous Nürburgring. The trip coincides with the WTCC (World Touring Car Championship) leg which will be taking place there, as well as the historic ADAC Zurich 24-hour sports car race.

The event will be held between the 15th and 17th of May and will cost €175 per person. This price covers; VIP entrance ticket to the race with paddock access, camping accommodation with a souvenir tent, all food and drink throughout the weekend, a hands-on encounter with the new Civic Type R, a tour of the garage, and a chance to meet the drivers at a special Q&A session.

I’ve also been informed that a lucky few who attend will get a chance to take their Civic on a lap around the circuit before the 24 hour race gets under way.

Numbers for both of these trips are limited, but if they tickle your fancy the link for the Honda trip is here. For those of you who want to get a great taste of Route 66, more information can be found here.
