The media won't shut up about it, so one can't really have missed the news that a potential future monarch was born yesterday.
As has increasingly been the case with any non-tragic breaking news - especially one as easily satirised as the royal baby hysteria has been - both social network users and newspapers were eager to outwit each other. The Sun rightly kept things simple with their front page, taking advantage of a rare punning opportunity:
The Metro Herald here in Dublin kept things amusingly dry with their effort, with extra marks for the (surely intentional) placement of the headline next to the claim that sarcasm is the 'lowest form of wit':
It wasn't only the papers revelling in the opportunity for some playfulness. Whether that's some photoshopping...

...or something a little more simple:
How can you tell when there's about to be a royal baby? When they start crowning. I'll be here all week.

One hashtag took the opportunity to draw some attention to the other 370,000 or so babies born yesterday. You can see the results here.
Nothing quite as awkward as an over-enthusiastic news anchor:
And what's a breaking news story without some member of the general public saying something incredibly strange?
There's still a name to be announced, so expect the puns and memes to continue flowing. They'll surely be fit for a prince.
