Amber Rudd, the UK's work and pensions secretary, has resigned from Boris Johnson's cabinet and the Conservative party.
In a statement, she criticised the British prime minister's handling of Brexit - saying she no longer believes leaving with a deal is the government's objective.
A spokesperson for the prime minister's office said they were "disappointed" over Ms Rudd's decision to resign.

Gardaí found the man's body in a house on Bandon Road yesterday morning.
They're appealing for information - in particular from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Bandon Road / McCurtain Villas area of the city between last Monday and yesterday.

The prime minister of the Bahamas says the islands are in their "hour of darkness", six days after the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian.
Tens of thousands of people are homeless while the US Coast Guard has rescued nearly 300 people.
At least 43 people died on the islands, with authorities expecting that number to rise.

Farmer protests are set to target supermarkets in an escalation of the row over beef prices.
Farmer's group Beef Plan Movement says the 'peaceful protests' will begin over the coming days.
It comes as the second round of talks aimed at resolving the dispute between farmers and meat factories are due to start tomorrow.
However, retailers won't be present - despite repeated requests from farmers that they be included.
