When a Russian lesbian couple found their seats before their flight from Moscow to St Petersburg, they noticed an unlikely figure sitting behind them.

In the next row was Vitaly Milonov, a politician known for his hardline anti-gay stance.

So they did what anyone would - take a kissing selfie - which was uploaded to Instagram with the following caption:

"Who’s that in the background??? MILONOV! And we don’t give a f**k! We’re flying to our favourite club, Infinity."

Milonov is currently working on legislation to prevent gay marriage and has a history of homophobic and antisemetic comments.

According to the Guardian, Milonov called the women "mentally ill" when asked about the incident.
