Ryanair is to give a refund to the grieving Dublin Surgeon who was charged for changing flights after learning of the death of his wife and three children in a fire in England last week.
Muhammad Taufiq Al-Sattar, who works for Beaumont and Temple Street Children's Hospital, was charged €188 to switch to an earlier flight after hearing the tragic news.
It is believed he tried to switch from his normally scheduled flight on Friday morning to an earlier one. He says he explained the circumstances behind his change of flight.
However the airline charged him the full new ticket price to book the new flight.
In a statement to the Irish Independent, Ryanair offered condolences and confirmed it will provide a full refund.
"Ryanair offers its sincere condolences to Dr. Sattar and confirmed that in the circumstances it will provide a full refund of any monies paid last Friday" it told the paper.
Speaking at the annual general meeting of the airline this morning, Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary said events had occurred in the past where sensitive situations could have been dealt with better and he apologised if people perceived the airline as having a 'macho' culture.
Meanwhile an 18-year-old man has appeared in court this morning accused of murdering Dr. Al-Sattar's wife and his three teenage children.
Kemo Anthony Porter has been remanded in custody by Leicester Magistrates Court until Monday.
Shehnila Taufiq, her daughter Zainab, and sons Bilal and Jamil died in a the fire in the Wood Hill area of the city a week ago.
