A 43-year-old man has been sent forward for trial at the Central Criminal Court charged with the murders of his sons.
10-year-old Eoghan and 5-year-old Ruairí Chada from Bagenalstown in Co. Carlow were found dead in Ballintubber in Co. Mayo on July 29th.
Their father Sanjeev Chada appeared before Castlebar District Court in Co. Mayo earlier where he was remanded in custody.
He was late arriving in court, after the Prison Service van bringing him from the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin took a wrong turn between Roscommon and Castlebar.
Judge Mary Devins said she was not impressed with the late arrival and inquired whether the Prison Service had access to a sat nav.
Mr. Chada was handcuffed to a garda and was presented with the Book of Evidence in respect of both charges. An application was also made for free legal aid.
He kept his head bowed during the brief hearing and did not speak. No date has yet been fixed for his trial.
