There’s been a reported sighting of the real Santa Claus in a petrol station off the N4 at Enfield.

A four-year-old girl who had stopped off with her Dad said she definitely spotted Mr Claus stepping into the gents.

When the girl stepped outside she saw an overflowing sleigh and eight reindeers tethered up in a rear car park.

She ran to tell her Dad but when they came back, it had all vanished in a twinkling.

Some people didn’t believe the little girl, but a forensic expert carried out a technical examination of the scene.

He found unusual sparkling dust and several reindeer droppings.

Meanwhile, Santa's wife has sent a special message to children all over the world.

Mrs Claus told North Pole Press that Santa had a bit of a chesty cough setting off this morning, and she actually considered hitching up the reindeer and taking the sleigh herself.

But Santa Claus insisted it was only a tickle in his throat and he wouldn’t dream of missing his favourite night of the year.

Just in case, Mrs Claus is asking children to leave out a small piece of fruit to keep Santa stocked up on Vitamin C - and maybe a tissue or two for his runny nose.

Travel plans

While the precise details are known only to the big man, we understand his travel plans usually starts at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean and travels west.

This means Children in the South Pacific are first to get their gifts, then New Zealand and Australia. After that, he shoots up to Japan, over to Asia, across to Africa, then onto Western Europe, Canada, the United States, Mexico and Central and South America.

The best estimate for delivery time to Ireland is somewhere between 8 pm tonight and midnight.

You can follow Santa's journey here.

Irish children will have a chance to glimpse Santa in the skies over Ireland this evening - before he starts delivering their presents.

The information's been released by the Irish Air Corps, which helps out the man in red every year, through air traffic control, weather charts, and technical support.

Everyone will have to be asleep in bed tonight to get their presents.

But Captain Brendan O'Dowd says that if we keep our eyes peeled tonight - we might get to see a sleigh in the sky:
