A Status Yellow wind warning will remain in place for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Kerry until 3am tomorrow.
Met Éireann said winds will reach speeds of between 50kph and 60kph with gusts between 90kph and 100kph.
The winds will be strongest in coastal areas.
Meanwhile a Status Yellow rainfall warning will come into force in Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork and Kerry from 6pm this evening.
Met Éireann said between 25mm and 45mm of rainfall is expected – with the potential for higher amounts in mountainous areas.
TODAY
It will be cool and blustery today and windy in the south and west.
Rather cloudy in many areas, but there will be some bright or sunny breaks in eastern areas.
Many places will be dry, but there will be some scattered rain near western coasts and persistent rain will develop in southwestern and western areas during the afternoon and early evening.
Top temperatures of 8C to 11C, but feeling colder in the wind.
Fresh to strong and gusty southeast winds will reach gale force in Atlantic coastal areas.
TONIGHT
Wet and windy tonight in Munster and Connacht with rain becoming widespread and heavy in strong and gusty southeast winds.
Mostly dry elsewhere but some rain moving in to the south of Leinster and parts of west Ulster later in the night.
Overnight lows of 2C to 6C.
