Protests are to take place outside the Dáil tonight with second gathering planned at Eyre Square in Galway along with a candle lit vigil at 5:30pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile there will also be a pro-choice protest tonight at the Irish embassy in London at 6pm following her death.

The Feminist London blog is calling on people to make use of “banners, placards or flyers” for the protests.

In Cork a vigil and protest gets underway later at the Cork Opera House while in Belfast there will also be a vigil and protest at City Hall tomorrow.

International coverage

International media has also been covering the story heavily today.

The Guardian leads with the headline “Savita Halappanavar’s medically unnecessary death” while the BBC says “Woman dies after abortion request ‘refused’ at Galway hospital”.

Britain’s ITV simply says “Abortion refusal: Woman dies” and Sky News phrases “Woman ‘Refused’ Abortion In Ireland Dies”.

And as far away as Australia Sky News Australia headlines “Woman dies after refused abortion”.

Speaking to The Irish Times‘ Kitty Holland Praveen Halappanavar outlined the events leading to her death.
